"The real place of graphic design is in society." - Barnbrook
In 2013 I got to see Jonathan Barnbrook speak at Point Conference in London regarding the process and the album art for (at the time) Bowie's most recent album, "The Next Day". He has designed Bowie's album art since the 2002 release of "Heathen" up through his final release "Blackstar". As well as designing the graphics for V&A's 2013 exhibition "David Bowie is," which I regrettably missed.
He said Bowie was always as involved in the album art as much as he was the album himself. Intense and invested on all fronts. Probably the closet proxy I've ever gotten to the man himself, but fortunate enough nonetheless. ⚡🚀
